9 Things to Remember Before Thor: Love and Thunder

Do you remember the dad bod? Oh, and both Asgard and Mjolnir were destroyed.
The MCU environment is always changing, with regular shows streaming on Disney+ and a continuous stream of theatrical releases. It’s difficult to keep track of where people are and what their present status is, and the inclusion of the multiverse just adds to the confusion. Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released in May, will be the hero’s eighth appearance on the big screen, and it’s safe to say he’s been through a lot! Before we go into his current antics, it’s a good idea to review some essential elements regarding his condition.
The Destruction of Asgard

Asgard has been a frequent location for Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the MCU, as it is the home of deities such as himself and Odin. The bulk of Thor’s family and friends lived there, therefore the events in Thor: Ragnarok must have been terrible for the God of Thunder. Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were forced to unleash the fire demon Surtur after an uphill struggle against Thor’s tremendously strong sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett). Asgard was entirely destroyed in an epic last battle, and Thor could only watch as the world he and so many others called home burned ablaze.
All of the remaining Asgardians were shown to have migrated to New Asgard, which was headquartered in Norway, in Avengers: Endgame. This occurred when Odin (Anthony Hopkins) stood with Thor in Norway and eloquently said, “Asgard is not a physical location. It was never the case. Asgard might be here. Our people are represented in Asgard.”
Valkyrie is the Queen of Asgard.

Thor informed Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) at the end of Avengers: Endgame that she was now the ruler of Asgard. Valkyrie understood Thor meant every word after first misinterpreting the phrase as a jest. Thor didn’t want to live the life that was expected of him; he wanted to build his own path in life, thus the title of King of Asgard was not one he was ready to accept. Valkyrie told Thor before he departed that she would be making numerous changes to New Asgard, which would be intriguing to witness in Love and Thunder.
Mjolnir was destroyed

Thor: Ragnarok was a horrifically devastating entry in the Thor saga, utterly destroying the aforementioned Asgard. But it wasn’t the only thing Thor had to give up. Hela smashed Mjolnir, his mighty hammer. This demonstrated her actual power, as she smashed the “hammer like a piece of glass,” as Loki so kindly phrased it.
While we’re on the subject of Mjolnir, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is shown holding the mythological weapon in the Love and Thunder trailer. This is noteworthy for two reasons. The first is because it was broken, as previously said, and the second is that not many individuals have been worthy of handling it. In fact, apart from Thor, only Vision and Captain America have been seen using it. This alludes to Jane’s Mighty Thor’s considerable strength, and the context behind this worthiness is exciting to see.
Thor now wields the Stormbreaker.

Thor sought a new weapon after losing his iconic weapon. Stormbreaker is introduced. The mythological ax was crafted by the dwarves of Nidavellir to be the finest weapon ever produced, but it wasn’t finished until Thor came searching. Thor and Eitri were able to manufacture the fabled ax with the assistance of the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War.
Stormbreaker, in addition to channeling all of Thor’s abilities and unleashing massive blasts of energy, may be used to reach the Bifrost, which enables Thor to travel between the Nine Realms.
Loki has died.

Loki and Thor have had a love/hate relationship on the big screen for almost a decade, but the events of Infinity War seem to have put a stop to that for the time being. Thanos murdered Loki in a valiant last stand. Loki attempted to stab Thanos in the neck after convincing him that he would aid him. Unfortunately for the demigod, Thanos anticipated this and stopped it before seizing Loki by the neck. Loki remained stubborn as Thanos crushed his neck and dumped his dead corpse at Thor’s feet, as is his wont.
Loki appeared in Endgame when the Avengers journeyed back in time due to the nature of the time stone. It was here that he escaped with the Tesseract. This form of Loki, as seen in his own Disney+ spin-off series, is now out in the universe, albeit he is unlikely to appear in Love and Thunder.
Currently, Thor is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thor was last seen at the end of Endgame. Thor boarded the Guardians’ spacecraft and headed out into space with the crew after handing up the title of King of Asgard to Valkyrie. It’s unclear what they’ve been up to between Endgame and Love and Thunder, but the appearance of the Guardians in the impending release should provide some answers. We know the Guardians, and more especially Starlord, wanted to locate Gamora. It’ll be fascinating to see whether this has any influence on the plot of the fourth Thor picture, but we should expect some hilarious conversations nonetheless.
‘Dad Bod’ by Thor

Thor fell into a deep despair as a result of his ordeals and became practically unrecognizable. The internet grabbed on this and memed it for all it was worth, but as amusing as he got, seeing Thor that out of shape was rather shocking. Prior to this, the God of Thunder was known for his flawless body. Thor was still in this dad bod phase as Endgame ended, but the trailer for Love and Thunder shows how he has morphed back into a more recognized version of himself. This will enable him to be regarded more seriously, albeit his amusing remarks seem to have had little effect!
Korg

Thor has seen many individuals he liked and admired perish at the hands of the many villains he’s confronted over the years, but Korg is one of his friends who hasn’t. They initially met in Ragnarok’s gladiator quarters. Since then, the two have developed a strong bond, with Korg often assisting Thor in times of need. Korg, a Kronan, was seen in Endgame playing video games with Thor in New Asgard, indicating that they remained in close proximity throughout the “blip.” We last saw him in New Asgard, but newer trailers have included him, so we can probably expect some more amusing sequences with the odd couple.
Thor and Jane Foster Split

Thor and Jane’s relationship seemed to be strained at best after the first Thor film. This was underscored in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Thor had no idea where Jane was, proving their estrangement. The romance was revealed to be ended in Ragnarok, however it’s unknown on what terms the two were on, since Thor emphasized to Loki that it was a mutual breakup. Endgame also revealed that Jane had been blipped by Thanos, thus the couple had been apart for at least another five years. Given the subject of the new film and Jane’s important involvement in it, it wouldn’t be too early to speculate that their romance isn’t over.

Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Where, Who, Why, and How
In the world of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy subfranchise, Gamora, played by Zoe Saldaña, was presumed dead after being thrown off a cliff on the planet Vormir in Avengers: Infinity War. However, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, she is back, albeit as an alternate version of herself. The rules of time travel in Avengers: Endgame created an alternate universe where an alternate version of Gamora still exists. This alternate version of Gamora, along with her sister Nebula, was kidnapped by Alternate Thanos and his loyal assassin daughters, and they followed the Avengers back to the main MCU timeline. Main Timeline Nebula killed her alternate self and convinced Alternate Gamora to fight for the good guys. Although Alternate Gamora is alive and well in the main timeline, she declines to join the Guardians as she has never met them or fallen in love with Star-Lord.

Gamora, played by Zoe Saldaña, is a pivotal character in the Guardians of the Galaxy subfranchise, but she was thought to be dead after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. So, how is Gamora alive in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Let’s take a look at where she is, who she is, why she is alive, and how she is back.
Who is Gamora in the MCU?
Gamora, the deadliest woman in the galaxy, was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. She was adopted by Thanos after he conquered her planet and killed 50% of its population. Gamora defected from Thanos’ forces and teamed up with the Guardians to keep the Kree general Ronan the Accuser from obtaining the Power Stone. She also encouraged her sister Nebula to defect from Thanos as well.
Where is Gamora in the main MCU timeline?
Technically, Gamora is dead. Thanos abducted her and threw her off a cliff on the planet Vormir, as the sacrifice required to obtain the Soul Stone during the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Why is Gamora alive again?
Zoe Saldaña is under contract to play Gamora, and her character is an essential part of the Guardians of the Galaxy subfranchise. But in-universe, the rules of time travel in Avengers: Endgame created an alternate universe where an alternate version of Gamora still exists.
How is Gamora alive in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
During the time heist in Endgame, Nebula and War Machine traveled back in time to intercept the Power Stone before the Guardians, Kree, or Thanos obtained it. However, they created an alternate universe where an alternate version of Thanos became aware that there was a timeline in which he gathered all the Infinity Stones and snapped half of the universe dead, which caused the Avengers to time-travel to collect the Infinity Stones. After kidnapping the main timeline Nebula, Alternate Thanos and his loyal assassin daughters, Alternate Gamora and Nebula, followed them back to the main MCU timeline. Main Timeline Nebula killed her alternate self and convinced Alternate Gamora to fight for the good guys. After Iron Man sacrificed himself to snap away all of “Thanos’ forces,” Alternate Gamora remained in the main MCU timeline but declined to join up with the Guardians, having never met them or fallen in love with Star-Lord.
In conclusion, while we don’t know what that means for Alternate Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we know she is in it.
It will be interesting to see how Alternate Gamora’s storyline unfolds in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Given her unique perspective and experiences, there are endless possibilities for where her character arc could go. Perhaps she will struggle to adapt to the new timeline, or maybe she will become a pivotal player in the battle against the villainous Adam Warlock.
Whatever the case may be, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the opportunity to see how Alternate Gamora fits into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the film set to be directed by James Gunn and featuring a star-studded cast, it is sure to be a thrilling and emotional ride for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.
