Clea, current Sorcerer Supreme and Doctor Strange’s lifelong love and ally, has a comics past!

She is the Dark Dimension’s sorcerer ruler and a Faltine, a race of creatures whose life was born of pure magical energy. Clea, a superhuman spell caster and illusionist, has been Doctor Strange’s lifelong comrade and collaborator, and she is certainly one of the most significant women in his life. And she is now Strange’s successor as Sorcerer Supreme!

Clea was introduced by Marvel luminaries Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in STRANGE TALES (1951) #126, and she has gone on to become Strange’s companion, student, lover, peer, and even wife. But, if you’ll excuse the pun, Clea had a weird path to the position she now inhabits. And she is prepared to go to any length to be reunited with the guy she loves. To get new fans and traditional readers up to speed, here are five key Clea stories, all of which are available on Marvel Unlimited.

THE OBVIOUS STRANGER

Who

Clea comes from a pretty difficult household. Her father, Orini, was the first king of the Dark Dimension, and her mother, Umar, is the Dread Dormammu’s sister. And since Orini was a Dormammu devotee, Clea was throughout the most of her childhood. Clea met Stephen Strange in STRANGE TALES #126, years after Dormammu claimed the Dark Dimension for himself.

Strange’s valor so charmed Clea that she assisted him battle Dormammu. Dormammu, enraged at Clea’s treachery, kidnapped her and threatened her life. Dormammu, on the other hand, was soon obliged to collaborate with Strange in order to save his realm from being overrun by the Mindless Ones. Dormammu unwillingly rewarded Strange by saving Clea’s life and freeing her from prison in STRANGE TALES #127.

Who

THE MASTER AND THE STUDENT

Strange takes Clea on as a pupil during her banishment on Earth in MARVEL PREMIERE (1972) #12. Clea’s innate powers as a sorcerer started to blossom under Strange’s tutelage. Over time, the two’s love sentiments became stronger. Clea started as Strange’s pupil and progressed to become his partner and more. Clea earned her own book of spells under his instruction in her co-starring series DOCTOR STRANGE (1974), and became equal to her instructor. Strange was also drawn into her family’s dirty laundry in issues #6-9. In MARVEL PREMIERE (1972) #12, Clea becomes Strange’s apprentice. #12 MARVEL PREMIERE (1972)

WhoREFLECTION WITH A TWIST

Clea is Dormammu’s niece, however there isn’t much of a similarity between them. Clea’s soul was taken by Silver Dagger and sucked into Strange’s Orb of Agamotto in MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #76. Clea was corrupted within the Orb and revived as a monstrous entity made of flames. This is what Clea may have become in the Dark Dimension if she had realized her wicked potential. Strange was able to restore Clea in MARVEL TEAM-UP #77 with the help of Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel: Carol Danvers, at tremendous risk to his own soul. In MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #77, Clea transforms into a Dark Dimension monster. MARVEL TEAM-UP #77 (1972)

Who
THE DARK DIMENSION’S RULER

In DOCTOR STRANGE (1974) #74 (starting with issue #69), Clea vanquished her parents, Orini and Umar, to assume her rightful position as queen of the Dark Dimension. Clea invited Strange to stay in the Dark Dimension as her consort, but he had to decline. Strange, as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, knew he had a job he couldn’t shirk, even if it meant having to say goodbye to the love of his life. In DOCTOR STRANGE (1974) #74, Clea begs Strange to be her consort. #74 DOCTOR STRANGE (1974)

WhoMARRIAGE AND LOVE

Strange and Clea agreed to be bonded to one other for life after a lengthy time of courting and periodic separation. Strange and Clea exchanged vows in DOCTOR STRANGE, SORCERER SUPREME (1988) #3, in a more mystical marriage than a typical wedding. They both accepted magical rings, or more particularly, the “Two Rings That Are One,” forming a relationship stronger than any human matrimonial bond. It also provided Clea with safety as a non-human resident of Earth. Furthermore, after fusing souls in DOCTOR STRANGE (1974) #5, a formal ceremony was unnecessary. DOCTOR STRANGE, SORCERER SUPREME (1988) #3 Clea displays their rings

WhoAN ESTRANGEMENT PERIOD

Strange and Clea have grown apart over time. The love they had shared seemed to have faded, and her own desire to conquer the Dark Dimension widened the gap even more. Clea went to the Sanctum Sanctorum in DOCTOR STRANGE ANNUAL (2016) #1 to make their separation official by cutting their magical tie. Instead of settling their differences (for want of a better phrase), Clea and Strange banded together to rescue Wong from a demonic construction contractor (they’re the worst!). The former couple chose against the magical annulment since it reminded them of what they saw in one other and their distinct qualities. They instead parted as friends. Strange and Clea split as friends, their supernatural tie intact.

Who

#1 FORGET ME NOT DOCTOR STRANGE ANNUAL (2016)

Mephisto seems to like pulling couples apart, as Spider-Man fans will verify. He did it to Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in “One More Day,” and Mephisto did it to Strange and Clea in DOCTOR STRANGE (2018) #17. Strange, like Peter Parker before him, was in a terrible situation when he contacted Mephisto for assistance. However, the stakes in this instance were nothing less than the survival of reality itself. The cost of Mephisto’s help was that Clea would lose all recollection of Strange and the love they had. Strange had one last chance with Clea before the curse took effect and separated them for good. Strange is forgotten by Clea due to enchantment in DOCTOR STRANGE (2018) #17.

WhoTHE GREAT GOODBYE

Following Stephen’s assassination in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE (2021) #1, the agreement he had made with Mephisto was broken, and Clea was allowed to recall her time with Strange. Clea’s love for Stephen were revived after seeing Strange’s former self in the present. Although the younger Strange had never met Clea, he was definitely captivated to her. He called the elder Stephen an idiot for ever letting go of Clea. Young Strange was successful in resurrecting Stephen…but only momentarily. Clea and Stephen were hardly together long enough for a meaningful goodbye in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE #5. This, however, is not the end of their narrative. Strange and Clea kiss in DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE (2021) #5. Clea moved inside the Sanctum Sanctorum after Strange’s death, as shown in STRANGE (2022) #1. Stephen Strange was able to personally bestow the Eye of Agamotto, the Cloak of Levitation, and the title of Sorcerer Supreme on Clea. In honor of her late companion, she has changed her name to Clea Strange. Clea is likewise determined to discover a method to release Strange from Death’s chilly grasp so that they may be together once again…

Armor Wars Movie: from Marvel Disney+ Series To A Film

Due to creative adjustments, the TV series starring Don Cheadle will now be turned into an MCU – Armor Wars movie. The most of the Disney+ series that Marvel Studios had planned have already been released, but Armor Wars has been stuck in development for a while. Even though it had been announced in 2020, James Rhodes’ spinoff show hadn’t received any updates until 2022. In 2008’s Iron Man, Terrence Howard played Rhodes; in Iron Man 2, Cheadle took over as War Machine, and he has since continued to feature in several MCU projects.

Despite being a part of Phase 5, the Armor Wars TV series on Disney+ is being redesigned as an MCU – Armor Wars movie, with Don Cheadle remaining attached to play War Machine.

War Machine is followed by Armor Wars following Phase 3, which resulted in the demise of his closest friend, Tony Stark. The Disney+ drama will, according to confirmation, follow the events of Secret Invasion, in which Cheadle will next play the Marvel character. Despite Disney’s commitment to creating the series, Armor Wars was not included in any of the Phases 5 or 6 slates that Marvel Studios presented at San Diego Comic-Con. One of the key Armor Wars stories, according to Cheadle in an interview from earlier this month, would include Tony Stark’s technology going out into the open, with Rhodey having to stop the wrong people from using it.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Armor Wars is being retooled into a feature picture, causing a significant shake-up within Marvel Studios. The company decided that a movie would be a better choice as opposed to a 6-episode series since they were dedicated to “having the tale conveyed the proper way.” The movie’s screenplay will be written by the film’s head writer, Yassir Lester, who is still employed. Production had been planned to begin in 2023, but this most recent development has forced a postponement. The Armor Wars information was released shortly after the director of the Blade reboot was fired.

How the MCU Will Be Affected by the Filming of Armor Wars Movie

Armor Wars

While Armor Wars’ continual postponement is a problem in and of itself, Cheadle’s character might gain from the film’s decision. Despite the fact that War Machine has been in a lot of MCU movies, he has never been the main character in any of the plots. Despite Rhodes having his own show at first, a feature film offers him a greater stage for obvious reasons. Additionally, this would give War Machine his own cinematic prominence after serving as Iron Man’s sidekick throughout the duration of the MCU. Marvel has adapted a product from one medium to another before, and Armor Wars is hardly the only instance of this. The Royal Family was supposed to have its own Phase 3 movie before The Inhumans became a TV show, but instead received a short series on ABC that had a poor outcome.

The length of Armor Wars’ delay as a result of the move from Disney+ to theaters is yet unknown. Armor Wars may have to wait until Phase 6 even if it takes place after Secret Invasion unless Marvel discovers a window in Phase 5 that makes sense. Due to the enormous lag between the conclusion of Secret Invasion and the release of Cheadle’s movie, it’s probable that the tie-ins from Secret Invasion will be eliminated if Armor Wars is redeveloped as a feature film. There is a likelihood that Armor Wars was always a Phase 6 project because the slate wasn’t fully revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. It is unclear how Armor Wars will fare as a movie unless Cheadle, Feige, and Marvel Studios make announcements.
