In Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Tom Cruise drives a doorless 5 Series.

The trailer for Mission: Impossible–Dead Reckoning was released a few days ago, and it looks amazing. BMW has had a long relationship with Paramount and the Mission: Impossible series, beginning with the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept in Ghost Protocol and continuing with Dead Reckoning Part One.

There are loads of amazing looking action set pieces in this new dramatic trailer, including one that shows Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt driving a dirt bike down a cliff with a parachute on his back. However, there is also a doorless 5 Series model. Instead of the customary BMW M5, as shown in the last MI film, Fallout, this one is merely a regular run-of-the-mill 5 Series LCI. According to the appearance of its trapezoidal exhausts, it’s a BMW 540i, not a M Performance variant.

Tom Cruise Drives a Doorless 5 Series in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning

The short film depicts Haley Atwell’s (Captain America: The First Avenger) character driving the M5 and reversing the 5er, which has all of its doors open for some reason, between two closely spaced automobiles, tearing the doors off. They then drive through what seems to be Rome, entirely unhindered by their doors. Perhaps they intended to make it a Superleggera.

Of course, the 5 Series isn’t the only car in the teaser; Tom Cruise is contractually compelled to drive, fly, and crash at least five different cars in each Mission: Impossible film. The second vehicle is a classic Fiat 500, which should make for an exciting automobile chase.

Most recent Mission: Impossible films have been fantastic, and I can’t wait to see this one. It seems to be the finest one yet, with incredible action sequences. Also, I’m curious to see whether they ever get those doors back.
