The newly upgraded BMW X4 M Competition LCI took an already terrific overall package and made it appear even better. Despite its odd design, the pre-LCI X4 M was always startlingly exciting to drive, virtually supercar-fast, and practical enough to live with on a daily basis. However, it was far from ideal and had many problems. Did BMW address the faults with the new LCI model? Joe Achilles discovered it in a recent video.
Almost everyone who has driven a pre-LCI X3 or X4 M Competition would agree on one point: the ride was uncomfortably stiff. I don’t mind a stiff ride (phrasing), but the X3 and X4 M were so stiff that they were really unpleasant. During my time with the X3 M, I’m quite sure there are still chunks of vertebrae floating around in my spinal fluid from a particularly terrible pothole. The pre-LCI automobile made Achilles feel the same way. His major aim throughout the journey was to test that suspension. So, did BMW repair it?
Yes, surprisingly. The suspension has been considerably enhanced to feel much more comfortable, according to Achilles, who spent a few days and a thousand miles in the X4 M. So much so that he declared the X4 M to be an excellent “mile-muncher.” Most individuals didn’t want to travel even a few feet in the pre-LCI X4 M, much alone many miles. So the fact that he drove a thousand miles without needing spinal surgery is a testimony to BMW’s work.
That was the main problem with the pre-LCI automobile. Everything else about the BMW X4 M is excellent: it has a commanding perspective of the road, a comfortable driving posture, and surprisingly outstanding handling. It also boasts the amazing S58 engine from BMW M, a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 503 horsepower (510 PS) and 479 lb-ft of torque. So it’s insanely fast.
Would Achilles, who isn’t a fan of SUVs, suggest the BMW X4 M Competition? To discover out, watch the video.
