Unfortunately for us, the E36 3 Series Touring was never available in the United States. It was the most visually appealing and functional variant of the E36. If that sounds appealing, this 1997 BMW 320i Touring, which is presently for sale on Cars and Bids, may be the vehicle for you.
This automobile has so much going for it that it makes me sad that I won’t be able to purchase it myself. It may have one of the weakest engines available for the E36 3 Series, a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated inline-six with 148 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque, but old-school BMW straight-sixes are always a joy to drive. This one also features a five-speed manual gearbox, which makes even a sluggish vehicle enjoyable to drive. It has a M Sport body kit, BMW M wheels, and the show-stopping Techno Violet exterior paint hue. It looks fantastic.
This E36 Touring was imported from Germany and has 101,100 miles (162,000 km) on the clock. It seems to be in excellent condition. It’s also essentially stock, with the exception of a TA Technix exhaust and a six-speed shift knob. Such a new, attractive, and functional 3 Series Touring would be an excellent everyday car for anybody interested in old BMWs. It won’t be the quickest or most dynamic vehicle, but it may be a lot of fun to go about in while simultaneously serving as a grocery getter.
At the time of writing, the auction has two days remaining and the price is steadily rising. That’s a lot of money for an E36, but this isn’t any ordinary E36. Not only is it a German-imported Touring, which is uncommon in the United States, but it’s also painted in BMW’s greatest color from the 1990s. Who can resist a purple BMW 3 Series Touring with a straight-six and a manual transmission?
