The BMW M4 CSL had its global premiere on the shores of Lake Como. The BMW M4 CSL was unquestionably the highlight of the 2022 Concorso d’Eleganza, set against the renowned Villa d’Este. The annual vintage car exhibition marked the 50th anniversary of the BMW M, and there were plenty of M vehicles on display.
The BMW M4 CSL’s 1,000-unit production run begins in July, but the high-end M4 sportscar is already said to be sold out in various countries across the globe. The US market will get 200 to 250 units, whereas Germany will only receive 150 units. Those units are also said to have been reserved.
It weighs 1,625 kg.
So, what makes the BMW M4 CSL unique? The M4 CSL went on a diet in addition to having an aggressive and dynamic external design. It shed 100 kilos (220 pounds) over the M4 Competition while establishing a new Nurburgring track record for BMW: 7:20 minutes. The Competition’s curb weight was reduced by 24 kg thanks to lightweight carbon fiber bucket seats. By removing the rear seats and seatbelt systems, another 21 kg was saved. Weight was reduced by further 21 kg thanks to extra-lightweight carbon ceramic brakes, lighter wheels, new springs, and new struts.
BMW saved another 15 lb by removing most of the M4 CSL’s soundproofing and replacing it with a lighter-weight variant. Carbon fiber exterior pieces decreased weight by 11 kg, with titanium exhaust silencers saving another four kg. Finally, another four kilograms were saved by employing less weight components throughout the vehicle, including as the carbon fiber hood, various kidney grilles, rear lights, floor mats, and automated temperature control. The M4 CSL now has a curbweight of 1,625 kg (3,582 lbs).
The M4 CSL was shown to the public in Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic, a unique paint job, as with all official pictures. BMW now offers the vehicle in Sapphire Black and Alpine White at no extra cost. The carbon fiber aerodynamic package and red accents are standard on all 1,000 units slated for manufacturing.
