The BMW M2 2023 will be manufactured only at the San Luis Potosi Plant.

BMW stated today that the future 2023 BMW M2 would be constructed entirely in Mexico at the San Luis Potosi factory. The new BMW G87 M2 will be manufactured alongside the 2 Series Coupe at the new factory, which has also been producing the BMW G20 3 Series from 2019. In 2021, the Mexico-based plant’s output will have grown by 25%. By 2022, the factory will have hired an additional 800 workers and will begin a second manufacturing shift.

Harald Gottsche, President and CEO of BMW Group Factory San Luis Potos, remarked during the unveiling of a camouflage BMW M2: “We are really delighted to be part of the celebration of M’s 50th anniversary, now that our Mexican plant will make M cars for the whole globe.” By manufacturing the second generation of the BMW M2 solely for the worldwide market, San Luis Potosi once again demonstrates its outstanding potential for human talent, and our commitment to the state’s growth and development is reaffirmed.”

The San Luis Potosi Plant is the most recent addition to the company’s worldwide manufacturing network. It was designed and built with the intention of being readily adaptable to the fabrication of many types. Only two years after it began production, the Plant has extended its operations to include the manufacture of plug-in hybrid automobiles. The Plant’s infrastructure was enlarged with an extra $125 million investment to include this second model on the manufacturing line. Since 2019, the Mexican facility has manufactured 170,000 BMW 3 Series automobiles, accounting for 3% of BMW’s worldwide output.

The all-new 2023 BMW M2 Competition is one of the most significant releases this year, at least in the BMW world. We’re just a few months away from seeing the first details, but some of the technical specifications have already leaked. BMW’s new M2 will be available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic powertrain. Essentially, the same possibilities as the new M3/M4.

The next M2 will produce roughly 455 horsepower in normal form — Competition, CS, and even CSL variants to follow. We anticipate a torque of 406 lb-ft, which is comparable to the regular M4. These power statistics will free up space for other versions above the M2 Competition, such as a new BMW M2 CS and, maybe, the first BMW M2 CSL.
