According to actor Benedict Cumberbatch, ‘Doctor Strange 2’ will be as popular as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ and the new picture is “an utter riot.”
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the next film starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will be as popular as Spider-Man: No Way Home, according to Cumberbatch.
Following its December release, Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man film became the first Hollywood picture to make more than $1 billion since 2019, surpassing the $1 billion mark in only 12 days. By January, it had become the sixth highest-grossing picture of all time, making a whopping $1.69 billion (£1.25 billion).
However, Cumberbatch, who portrays the titular Doctor Strange, believes that the next The Multiverse Of Madness might be just as successful.
“It’s a huge, massive movie,” he said, according to Empire (via Screenrant). “It’s going to be a total blast.” And if it can pull off the amount of ambition it has, we’ll have a Spidey-level success. So there you have it, I’ll stick my flag in the sand.”
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is a sequel to Doctor Strange, which was released in 2016. The 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also serves as a prequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home, WandaVision, Loki, and What If…?
According to a newly released teaser, Doctor Strange In The Universe Of Madness picks up soon after the events of No Way Home, which saw Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange perform a spell that messed with the multiverse.
“I did what I needed to do to defend our universe,” Cumberbatch says off-screen, to which his sidekick-turned-Sorcerer Supreme, Wong (played by Benedict Wong), responds, “You can’t control everything, Strange.” You’ve created a portal between worlds, and we have no idea who or what will pass through.”
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6.
“Dr. Stephen Strange performs a prohibited magic that creates a doorway to the universe,” according to the film’s premise, which debuted in December 2021 with the first teaser. However, a danger looms that his squad may be unable to manage.”
It’s the first of three MCU films set to be released in 2022. Thor: Love And Thunder will be released on July 8, followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11. In addition, this year, Marvel Studios has three Disney+ shows in the works: Moon Knight (which will launch on March 30), She Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
