Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio, better known as the singer Bad Bunny, doesn’t just want to sell out concert halls. He also wants to make a lot of money from music. Sony said that the Grammy winner will play the main role in Marvel’s new movie, El Muerto, which is coming out soon. In the Marvel universe, this will be the first time a Latinx actor has a live-action superhero movie in the Marvel universe.
In the movie, Bad Bunny will play Juan Carlos Estrada/El Muerto (the dead one), an antihero who gets his powers from a mask that has been passed down through the years. El Muerto is going to go to a wrestling event for a good cause and fight Spider-Man in an attempt to get Spider-mask Man’s off.
According to Deadline, Bad Bunny told Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch: I don’t know what to say “I’m a wrestling fan. A wrestler is someone who has watched wrestling since they were young. I used to be a champion, and this is why I like this character so much. Think this is the perfect job for me, and it will be a lot of fun too!”
During his search of Spider-Man comic book archives, Bad Bunny looked for characters that he thought would be good for him. He chose El Muerto, who was first introduced in 2006.
This will also not be the singer’s first acting job, but it will be the first one. If you want to see him in person this summer, you can see him in Bullet Train with Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. He has been on Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico before.
If Marvel wants to make its cast more diverse, that seems to be going on for a while now, Bad Bunny will be the main character in this movie. Salma Hayek played a co-star in 2021’s Eternals. It wasn’t until 2018 with Black Panther that Marvel had a non-white actor play the lead superhero role. When Shang-Chi first came out, there was also The Legend of the Ten Rings with Simu Liu and Akwafina.
Bad Bunny will be very busy until this movie is done. Soon, he will go on the Bad Bunny: World’s Hottest Tour. This month, he announced another album.
The movie is set to open in theaters on January 12, 2024, and it will last for two hours.
