What we know so far about Doctor Strange’s streaming release in the Multiverse of Madness.
So you’re ready to see Marvel’s next mega-hit superhero film? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the follow-up to 2016’s Doctor Strange, will be released in theaters on Friday.
But what about streaming possibilities at home? Based on past Marvel films, you would anticipate that the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring film will be available on Disney Plus soon after its debut. That is a distinct possibility. Let’s get into the specifics down below.
When is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness going to be available on Disney Plus?
The simple answer is that Disney hasn’t said when Doctor Strange 2 will be available on Disney Plus. That doesn’t mean we can’t make assumptions based on prior Disney Plus releases.
In 2021 (and 2022), a trio of Marvel films will be available on Disney Plus on the day of their theatrical release or a few months later. In July, Black Widow was released on Disney Plus and in theaters on the same day.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in cinemas in September, then moved to Disney Plus two months later (or 70 days). Eternals premiered in cinemas in November, and it was eventually added on Disney Plus more than two months later (68 days). (Note: Due to a confusing license-sharing agreement with Sony, the Christmas film Spider-Man: No Way Home is unlikely to be on Disney Plus anytime soon.)
So, might we anticipate Doctor Strange 2 to be on Disney Plus sometime in July? If we add the 70 days since its May 6 release date, we get something close to a July 15 Disney Plus release date.
This might be pushed out even further if the conclusion of Ms. Marvel (beginning June 8) on Disney Plus, as well as the theatrical premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8, come into play. Stay tuned for official Disney word (we’ll update this page).
