The Marvel Cinematic Universe has evolved to become Hollywood’s largest franchise, winning critical acclaim, commercial success, and the approval of moviegoers all over the globe. However, not everyone is a fan, as a number of Hollywood legends have begun to come out and criticize the MCU in recent years.
Legendary directors such as Denis Villeneuve, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola have all been critical of the MCU; even Moon Knight’s Ethan Hawke has had his opinion on the matter. Although Scorsese’s remarks are perhaps the most known and polarizing, in which he compares the franchise’s films to amusement parks and refers to them as “not cinema,”
The disparaging remarks of these Hollywood elites haven’t stopped Marvel Studios from acquiring star-studded talent such as Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, and Anthony Hopkins. Now, the superhero studio seems to have found its newest A-list star in the form of an actress who has lately been doing her own Marvel-bashing.
Jamie Lee Curtis Could Join the MCU
UPDATE: In response to a message on the @MCU Direct Twitter account, James Gunn simply said, “Nope,” regarding reports of Jamie Lee Curtis’ presence.
Lizzie Hill of The Cosmic Circus claimed that Hollywood great Jamie Lee Curtis would feature in one of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films that was just shot in Atlanta.
Hill chose not to publish the story at the time because Curtis’ prior anti-Marvel comments cast doubt on its veracity, and she was unable to corroborate it with other reputable sources.
Atlanta Shooting claimed to corroborate the information by reposting Curtis’ anti-Marvel tweet with a comment stating that the actress was filming in Atlanta in January for “Something linked to comic books. Something extraterrestrial.”
I have a terrible memory… however… @curtisleejamie was supposed to be in Atlanta and at Trilith in January for something comic book-related. Something extraterrestrial. Curtis has lately made many tweets mocking Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as it prepares to hit cinemas alongside her own highly praised Multiverse epic, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Who Could Jamie Lee Curtis Play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
A deeper look at Jamie Lee Curtis’ previous postings and comments reveals that they were all written in a lighthearted and cheerful tone. The actress even captioned one recent Instagram image, “#guessiwillneverbecastinamarvelmovie,” and yet it seems that she has been.
Given her acting talent, the Halloween star could play a variety of Marvel characters, but joining the Guardians of the Galaxy series limits her role to a cameo. Of course, it’s unknown if Curtis will appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special or Vol. 3, presuming the reports are genuine.
Kevin Bacon, who was apparently on location for a sequence in Hollywood’s Beverly Hills, was recently added to James Gunn’s pair of Guardians projects. Given this, it’s completely feasible that both of these actors would appear in this scenario as themselves, which would definitely be funny.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will debut on Disney+ in December, with Vol. 3 hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
