John Boyega Rejects Marvel: “I Want ‘Fresh Ideas,’ and You Can’t Top ‘Iron Man,'” he says

It’s difficult to spend two or three months without hearing about John Boyega joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One unsubstantiated May allegation said Boyega had already shot a secret Marvel part, while another 2021 rumor stated Boyega was engaged in the “Captain Marvel” sequel “The Marvels.” However, in an interview with Men’s Health, Boyega has debunked such speculations, stating that he is not interested in the MCU at this moment.

“That’s not in the picture for me right now,” Boyega remarked of Marvel films. “I want to do subtle things… I’d want to offer my talents to creative independent films with new, fresh ideas, since I know how difficult it is to beat ‘Iron Man’ in that realm.”

According to Boyega’s agent, Femi Oguns, Boyega’s ambition as an actor has always been “to disrupt the business and also to create history,” adding, “For John, it was never about trying to fit into the box.” He wants to be the box’s outline.”

Boyega has purposely avoided portraying enslaved people and drug traffickers in order to “disrupt” the system for Black actors. “It’s all about responsibility for John,” Oguns continued. He refuses to be defined by stereotypical roles.”

Joining Marvel would be Boyega’s second Disney-backed series after playing Finn in three “Star Wars” films, but the actor is now focused on indies. Boyega’s Sundance thriller “Breaking” hits cinemas on August 26, and he also co-stars with Viola Davis in Sony Pictures’ warrior epic “The Woman King,” which hits theaters on September 16.
