Karen Gillan’s position as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie does not always allow for much improvisation, but that has changed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“There’s been considerably more improv for me this time around than I’ve ever offered before,” Gillan told The Wrap in a recent interview. Of course, Gillan has already improvised as Nebula, stating that some of her most memorable scenes in Avengers: Endgame were improvised.
“I would say, I improvised a lot of Nebula because I don’t know if you watched Endgame, which seems like — (laughs) — That’s a ludicrous question.” “But really, everything with Robert Downey Jr. at the start was like, that entire montage was improvised,” Gillan confessed. “Because all that was said was, well, they play football.” They eat and do this. And then we got to improvise since he’s such an excellent improviser. So there was all this talk about them playing the game and how important it was for Nebula to win something. As a result, she’s gradually becoming more improv-y.”
When it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though, Gillan said that “a lot more” improvisation has happened, but she is unclear whether everything will make it into the final version of the film.
“She’s improvising a lot more lines this time around in Guardians 3.” I’m not sure whether they’ll make it, but I hope they do.”
