The second complete trailer for Marvel Studios’ 29th film, Thor: Love and Thunder, was released little over a month after the shortest promotional tour in MCU history started. While there was a lot of buzz about Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’s return, one character seemed to steal the show: Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher.
After impressing as Bruce Wayne and Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Bale’s entry into the MCU drew a lot of attention, particularly when it was revealed that he’d portray Thor 4’s major nemesis. That expectation rose immensely as fans waited to see his version on Gorr the God Butcher for the first time, with just little hints for his character appearing via items such as Funko Pops!.
The second Thor 4 teaser thoroughly fleshed out Bale’s menacing adversary – one who might be one of the MCU’s most horrifying new villains – coupled with another look at Jane Foster’s jacked Mighty Thor and a tribute to The Watcher from What If…? Fans are already sharing their responses to the next MCU nemesis, and it seems that they are not disappointed in the least.
Reactions from Fans to Christian Bale’s MCU Debut
The first video of Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher appeared in the second full trailer for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. Fans were quite outspoken on Twitter when the teaser debuted, with the majority of them being very complimentary.
Bale’s Gorr appearance, according to @homoscycle, is “really insane:”
“Christian Bale’s look in Love and Thunder is insane.” @ceveneightnine called the clip as “terrifying,” and believes that many individuals will perish in this forthcoming Thor sequel:
“Christian Bale looks frightening in that film.” “I can’t wait, the mfs are dying.” @NonStop Antonio remarked on Gorr’s makeover, which seems more human-like on film than in the comics.
“Even though I’m not a huge admirer of this new appearance. He still seems nuts, and Christian Bale is going to kill it! I can’t wait for this movie!!! 1” Thor, Love, and Thunder, Gorr the God Butcher Marvel’s @DthaGod14 kept his remarks brief, noting on how “tough” Bale seems as Thor: Love and Thunder’s major antagonist:
“As the Godbutcher, Christian Bale looks tough as nails.” @Wick014 couldn’t contain his excitement, naming Thor 4 his “most anticipated Phase 4 MCU film” and admiring Bale’s appearance as Gorr:
“OH MY GOD.” THIS is why this has always been and will continue to be my most anticipated Phase 4 MCU film!!!! “Christian Bale seems to be really frightening!!!!” @dsub5991 would have liked that Bale seem “a bit less humanoid” in the teaser for comedic authenticity, but he is nonetheless thrilled for Bale’s performance:
“I wish Christian Bale as Gorr had appeared less humanoid to be more comically authentic.” Nonetheless, I’m certain Bale will provide an outstanding performance.” @IndyFilmPro addressed fans who are upset with the absence of CGI for Bale in the role:
“Everyone complaining about their not using CGI for Christian Bale’s portrayal in Thor is ridiculous.” If you’re going to hire a brilliant actor, you should offer him as much acting space as possible. @MrShenanigens admits to being uninterested in Thor: Love and Thunder until he saw Bale in the trailer:
“I had absolutely no interest in this film. Now I may be able to watch it because of the LEGEND Christian Bale.” The following is the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer:
Christian Bale Arrives with a Bang
As the release date of Thor: Love and Thunder approaches, director Taika Waititi has previously called Gorr the God Butcher as possibly Marvel’s finest villain to date. While other big bads like Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin have made similar claims, Christian Bale’s first look surely gives him a run at the title.
Even while he presently lacks the trademark tentacles flowing out of his head and torso, promo art has hinted that he’ll assume his full comics appearance once Thor 4 hits theaters in a few weeks. For the time being, the picture in this new teaser reveals perhaps one of the scariest evil villains Marvel has ever shown on film, particularly because the majority of his material is in black and white.
While this is likely not the final video featuring Bale’s Gorr, it does offer fans an indication of what to anticipate from the MCU’s newest Thor villain after Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith, and Cate Blanchett’s Hela. And, if early reviews are any indication, fans are excited to see what Bale accomplishes with his newest crazy character.
Thor: Love and Thunder will debut in theaters on July 8.
