Patrick Stewart’s Professor X appears in Wanda’s mind in new Doctor Strange 2 concept art.

After eight years in the MCU, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness allowed Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff to advance to full-fledged villain status, unleashing her strength at every step. This even resulted in her deleting the whole first take of Marvel’s Illuminati, lead by Patrick Stewart’s new Professor X.

Stewart has been making news for the most of the last several months after initially being heard in the Doctor Strange 2 Super Bowl teaser, only months after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned their previous Marvel roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This even had the original form of his brilliant yellow hoverchair from the comics and X-Men: The Animated Series, allowing him to join the dais as the last member of Earth-838’s interdimensional council.

Professor X used his telekinetic talents to attempt to rescue Wanda from her parallel self before being slain, giving life to the scene from the second trailer of the camera going right into Wanda’s eye. New concept art depicts that moment in more detail, showing how it transitioned from the computer to the big screen.

The Scarlet Witch Meets Professor X

Concept artist Alexander Mandradjiev shared concept art of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Instagram.

Wanda is depicted beneath a pile of debris, as she was in the final edit of the film, while Stewart’s Professor X reaches out to rescue her from herself.

This sequence was characterized as a “emotional moment” to convey to the big screen by Mandradjiev, who aimed to find the appropriate quality to make it appear like a total nightmare for Olsen’s villain:

“This was a difficult scene to depict. I was looking for a dreamlike feeling, like a nightmare caught in a loop.” Patrick

The concept artist also showed Doctor Strange passing through a gateway with numerous realities, including the Savage Lands and the Dark Dimension, portrayed around the boundaries. Mandradjiev noted how the film attempted to put the viewer in Doctor Strange’s shoes by traveling across so many worlds with scenes like these, despite the fact that this one didn’t reach the final cut:

“We investigated a multiverse’s worth of multiverses. The objective was to put the viewer in Dr. Strange’s footsteps as he went between realities.”

Instagram hashtags: Doctor Strange, Multiverse, and Doctor Strange 2. Finally, Mandradjiev uploaded a photo of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez opening one of her legendary star gates as she explored the many realms ahead of her. In the post, the graphic artist also commended his Visdev team while expressing his pleasure to be a part of it:

Wanda is the first X-Man to fight in the MCU.

When Patrick Stewart was announced to be joining the MCU, fans worldwide were eager to see what his Charles Xavier might accomplish against Wanda Maximoff, the MCU’s top telepath. As it turned out, this was one of the scariest scenes in the movie, as Wanda effortlessly dispatched him after doing the same to Captain Marvel, Black Blot, and Mr. Fantastic.

Because of the Darkhold’s effect over Wanda’s psyche, she was able to unleash her full strength in Doctor Strange 2, giving her a huge edge over anybody who stood in her way throughout the plot. This includes Professor X, one of Marvel Comics’ most formidable Mutants, who succumbed to Wanda’s anger after just a few minutes within her damaged mind.

Overall, this combat was a watershed moment for the MCU, as two extremely strong X-Men from the books faced off for the first time under the Marvel Studios banner. Professor X’s comeback through his primary MCU Variant is still uncertain, but for now, this scene sets the groundwork for the Mutants’ eventual participation alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now in cinemas.
