Three of the six Marvel Netflix shows have been upgraded to Disney+.

Despite its uncertain canonicity, Netflix’s Defenders Saga provided some of the most popular and praised Marvel material to date. Daredevil got constant accolades throughout its run, and fans are thrilled to see Charlie Cox’s hero finally return to the MCU.

Fans experienced a major change in how they could watch these programs earlier this year when all six of them left Netflix in favor of Disney+. Given the mature nature of the material, Disney+ had to make certain changes to the service in order to include parental controls, since the series was the first mature content to be introduced domestically.

When The Defenders Saga debuted on Disney+, many fans instantly noted a reduction in quality compared to how it appeared on Netflix. The streamer instantly guaranteed 4K versions were on the way, citing their haste to offer the series on Disney+ as soon as possible, and they have already come. At least somewhat.

Disney+ Upgrades Some Marvel Netflix Series to 4K Three

Three of the six series from the Defenders Saga have been upgraded to 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Vision on Disney+.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have all received 4K support as well as Dolby Vision – an HDR technique intended to guarantee material is projected as precisely as possible.

Despite previously supporting Dolby Vision and 4K on Netflix, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher all continue to show their old versions.

Disney+ Makes Good on Its Promises

Disney+ has not offered a clear explanation for why it has taken so long to add the highly anticipated 4K versions of these shows to the service, but fans will be pleased to see the streamer finally starting to deliver on its promises. Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher should get the similar treatment shortly.

Since introducing the Marvel TV programs to its own streaming service, Disney has exhibited a tremendous devotion to them. Not only was the series heavily promoted before to its arrival on the site, but Disney+ is continuously reminding users of its existence with updates like these, as well as a recent Agents of SHIELD watch party.

As of now, it is unclear if this commitment implies their canonicity or hints to the continuation of these programs in the future. Daredevil seems to be returning to Disney+, however it is unknown if this will be a continuation of the original series or a whole remake.

The Defenders Saga’s six seasons are now available to view exclusively on Disney+.
