What If The Watcher Statue Is In The New Thor 4 Trailer? (Photo)

Marvel has released the second teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder, which has some incredible new footage and context for Chris Hemsworth’s impending sequel. Thor Odinson gets to show off his abs, Jane Foster shows off some fantastic new maneuvers, and audiences all across the globe get their first look at the fearsome Gorr the God Butcher.

The film continues to highlight director Taika Watiti’s quirky visual aesthetic and sense of humour, promising a wild trip that may even outdo Thor: Ragnarok. However, with a new trailer come freshly discovered Easter eggs.

There’s one particularly large Easter egg hidden in the backdrop of this new teaser. It’s a picture that might pave the way for the cosmic Uatu the Watcher from What If…? to make his way to the big screen.

Thor 4’s The Watcher

Jane Foster’s God of Thunder may be seen lifting her hammer to the skies in the latest Thor: Love and Thunder teaser, summoning lightning.

Behind her are sculptures of numerous larger-than-life characters who comprise some of the Marvel Universe’s Cosmic entities––the people that embody existence itself. Death, The Living Tribunal, Infinity, and Eon are all present.

However, one stands out above the rest: Uatu’s Watcher.

What

Yes, this is the same Watcher that appeared in What If…? and was portrayed by Jeffery Wright:

As fans can see in the zoomed-in photo below, the statue bears an identical match to the character:

What

Will The Watcher Take Part?

While The Watchers did appear during Stan Lee’s cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it never seemed like a true introduction to that species. It seems to be a silly-fun moment with little effort made towards integrating The Watchers (something potentially backed up by their absence from Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame).

However, it was evident that with What If…?, The Watchers, and especially Uatu, were going to be thrust into the forefront, paving the way for a significantly more engaged role in the MCU’s future.

So, what are the chances that Uatu will really show up? Given his responsibility to never intervene, the stakes would have to be quite high – maybe Infinity Ultron high – for that to happen. So, although it is conceivable, this statue is most likely the most significant acknowledgment fans will get.

However, if the predicted Secret Wars is the next major Avengers or event picture, it would be a large enough collection of circumstances for Jeffery Wright’s ardent watcher to fully cross over from animation to live-action.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in cinemas on July 8.
